My Approach
How I work
Gentle
It’s important to me that our relationship feels safe and kind. Even though challenges are often a part of therapy, I believe in developing our relationship in such a way that even challenge is always delivered with gentleness.
Collaborative
I believe that you have an innate capacity to heal and my role is that of a “fellow traveler” on your journey. I aim to guide you and serve as a compassionate listener to your experiences. We will work together to untangle your past from your present by identifying emotions, integrating mindfulness, and honoring your personal strengths.
Relational
We heal and grow in relationships and I will therefore often draw attention to patterns that appear between us. This will allow you to express all the feelings you experience in our relationship and have a safe space to discuss them.
Strengths-Oriented
While we’ll untangle what’s hard, we’ll also focus on what lights you up and brings you joy as important aspects of your healing and growth. I bring a playful lightness to our work at times, honoring that humor and levity are as important as exploring the more challenging aspects of your experience.
Supportive
Clients have reported a greater sense of Self, professional growth, and more satisfying intimate relationships as a result of our work.
“For perhaps we are like stones; our own history and the history of the world embedded in us. We hold a sorrow deep within and can’t weep until that history is sung.”
— Susan Griffin · Poet, Essayist, Novelist and Playwright
Orientation
Depth-Oriented
I integrate traditional depth-oriented approaches by honoring your history by helping you address the origins of certain thoughts, behavioral patterns, and emotions. We will address what’s hurting now and unwind the story of how you got there.
Trauma-Informed
I am dedicated to honoring trauma's various impacts on the mind, body, and spirit. This is another reason why your history is so important to me. I draw from somatic (body-based) approaches to integrate tools to relieve anxiety, ground your body, and help you find ease within your mind, body, and spirit.
Transpersonal
I honor the various ways that religion and spirituality are important to you. I am open to exploring how the transpersonal relates to what is happening for you and integrating that understanding into our work.
Informed by Intersectional Feminism
My approach is informed by intersectional feminism, a term coined by Dr. Kimberlé W. Crenshaw, a pioneering critical race scholar, law professor, civil rights activist, and intersectional feminist. I hold all the parts of you and your identity holistically. Intersectional feminism is like a kaleidoscope — I see you as not only impacted by your relationships but also by how larger cultural forces and systems of oppression contribute to how you experience the world.
